THETFORD TRANSPORT TRAINING

LGV Driver Training for all classes:

HAZARD PERCEPTION / THEORY TEST.

From 4 th August 2008 the LGV theory test will be divided into two separate parts, part one is a multiple choice test and part two is a hazard perception test. The two parts can be taken at different times or on the same day, but both parts must be passed within a 24 month period for a valid theory test pass.

To prepare for both parts of the theory test we recommend that all candidates, regardless of driving experience, use the resource material available. The resource material is available from most high street book shops and from the DSA official online bookstore www.dsa.gov.uk look under “Publications”

We recommend the following publications:

The Official DSA Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles 2008/09 Edition

The Official Highway Code book / cd

The Official Know Your Traffic Signs book / cd

Once you have taken the test you will be given your result letter by a member of the test centre staff, if you passed, you will also receive your theory test certificate which has your theory test number on, you will need this number when you book your practical test, your theory test certificate is valid for two years from the date of your test, if you do not take your practical test within this two year period you will have to take another Theory test.

The Hazard Perception part is also delivered on a computer but you respond by clicking a button on the mouse, you will be presented with a series of 19 video clips which feature every day road scenes, in each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards, the pass mark for the hazard perception part of the theory test is 50 out of 75.

Once you have taken the test you will be given your result letter by a member of the test centre staff. If you passed, you will also receive your Hazard Perception test certificate which has your Hazard Perception test number on. The new Theory test will cost £35.00 and the Hazard Perception test will cost £15.00.

To help candidates prepare for their test, DSA has also produced a video called "Are you Ready?", which explains how the test works. this will be distributed free of charge to all candidates along with their test appointment letter. Or Thetford Transport Training can arrange for a one-day driving course of Hazard Perception training in our vehicle (Provisional licence required).

The LGV provisional driving license MUST have the relevant professional entitlement BEFORE taking the DSA driving test. It is also necessary to have some other form of identification containing a photograph AND signature, i.e. Passport, Security Pass, etc. when attending the DSA test centre for the Theory / Hazard Perception tests, and the DSA driving test centre for the practical driving test or the test will be forfeit, and the fee lost.

May we point out that a candidate CANNOT drive and LGV/PCV unaided without FIRST passing BOTH tests. Your nearest theory centre can be obtained by ringing - 03002001122.
